Unfortunately cataloguing and fun still don’t go together but it has become far less of a chore. If it’s good then I’ll use it but if I think that NeoFinder is superior then I’ll upgrade to one of the multi-user business license options. I am now waiting to see what form the Photo Mechanic catalogue takes when it appears. There are probably loads more options to this application than I have thought about yet and so I look forward to playing with it some more and finding new things to do with it. The idea is that I have a full set of JPEG edited files on a cloud server which I can identify by file name having searched on the iPhone or iPad and get them to where they need to go that way. Quite how often I’ll need this isn’t obvious but it is something that the application supports and so I’ve added it to my photo apps folder on the phone. I have also bought the iOS app which allows me to keep a copy of the catalogue on my iPhone and iPad ready to search for images when I’m not in the office and when I don’t have a computer to hand. So, for now, I have a new catalogue application that does the job well with no fuss. The great news is that it is fully 64bit and so it should be compatible with the next version of the Mac OS The interface isn’t pretty but it is familiar and it does a decent job. To get that you have to pay US$149.90 + sales tax for the business edition, which also offers extra functionality. This basic version isn’t perfect: it doesn’t automatically update when you add new images for example. I kept trying to trip it up – going for searches that I knew other applications had struggled with and it passed every test I threw at it. Two days later I paid US$39.99 + sales taxes for the Mac Private License and I created a catalogue for my main 5TB external USB drive overnight. The developers even offer a “sidegrade” discount for people making this transition. Moving from Media Pro to NeoFinder was a doddle. The question popped into my head “why keep trying to make Media Pro work when this is available?” All of my pictures have their metadata intact and I have tried hard over the years to get my captions and keywords as good as I can make them. I made a quick catalogue from about 20,000 old images and I was shocked by how easy it was to use and how good the searches it allowed were. They offer a free trial and I had some time on my hands and so I downloaded and installed it. I thought to myself “how come I have never heard of it?” A quick search on the web brought up their site and I realised that this was a newer name for the old CD Finder application that I tried and quite liked half a dozen years or more ago. Camera Bits have been saying for years that “it is coming” but I have decided to look around for other options.Ī few months ago I was reading a thread on a Facebook photographers’ group that mentioned NeoFinder. Phase One’s decision to stop supporting it has made me look around for an alternative.īeing a long-time fan of Photo Mechanic I have been holding out and waiting for them to bring out a new version of the application that forms the core of my workflow with a cataloguing function. I have had Media Pro in its various forms for a very long time now and it has served me well. The idea of having an application that does so much and that is effectively free (as I subscribe to Photoshop CC anyway) is a good one but every time I have given it a go, I have decided that it isn’t as convenient at Media Pro as a catalogue. Well that’s not entirely true every time I look at Lightroom one of the things that attracts me to it is the cataloguing function that it brings with it. Cataloguing my archive is definitely something that I haven’t given enough thought to. abeMeda uses the same catalog data format and offering the same functionality as NeoFinder.Like most photographers my workflow has developed over the years and there are some bits of it that are more to do with convenience and habit than they are to do with efficiency. There is also a version available for Windows, since 2000, called abeMeda, formerly known as CDWinder. NeoFinder is available as demoware, which lets you to catalog 25 disks, but use all other features as long as you want. NeoFinder also supports cataloging of geotagged photos, a geo search, and can add GPS tags to photos. The software is a digital asset management utility, which offers a wide variety of music, photo, video, and other meta data, including thumbnails and XMP (Adobes Extensible Metadata Platform), that is being read while cataloging a disk or data folder, and has many workflow integrations, such as with Roxio Toast, FileMaker, or Adobe Bridge. NeoFinder is an application for Apple's Mac OS X developed by Norbert M. Playful animals, they like to curl up in a shirt pocket or specially designed pouches. It takes care of the essentials, and in my experience handled Docker well–once I’d been shown how to custom-install apps, that is. The CasaOS Web interface (shown above), while not having a true window system (there are dialogs), nonetheless impressed me. (There’s a lot of configurations options–shown above) Even then, my success rate was hardly spectacular. It gets tricky.Ī Docker veteran will likely have fewer problems, but it took several emails and quite a bit of time on Icewhale’s Discord server and YouTube (look up DB TEch) for me to discover how to accomplish this task. Some apps fill in some of the settings, others don’t. Though this is a preinstalled app, the same dialog is used for installing apps from places such as. Alas, this is where the lack of documentation for CasaOS comes into play. If you don’t find what you want listed in the app store, you can perform a custom install of one of the more than 100,000 available Docker apps. Duplicati is also on hand for online and local backup, but it’s from the server to other destinations only you can’t grab files from a remote source to back them up to the ZimaBoard. There is the effective Syncthing, but that requires local clients. I wasn’t in love with the selection of backup programs, but I’m strange in wanting the server to do all the work. Exiting and reopening seemed to cure this. I also had some issues with newly installed docker modules (Jellyfin and Plex) taking me straight to logins on first run, when they should have taken me to first-time-setup pages. This is hardly a deal-breaking issue, but it is a sign of the version 0.3x status of CasaOS. The ZimaBoard had the Jellyfin media server already installed, but the “Install” option was still available in the store. One thing I noticed about the app store (and didn’t particularly like) is that it doesn’t track what you already have installed. If you’re exposing the ZimaBoard to the outside world (i.e., the internet), you should change the defaults as soon as possible, as they are well known. It won’t respond to the one you create at first run. Personally, rather than keep a list, I changed them all to match those I entered at first run whenever possible.īy the way, the terminal uses the base username and password: casaos/casaos. Also, most apps require their own user name and password. While it’s not quite as slick as the genuine child windows that QNAP and Synology NAS boxers offer, CasaOS is perfectly usable. Note that most apps will use the entire tab, or open a new one. Installing the OS and apps on the ZimaBoardĪs shipped, the CasaOS Web interface sports a file manager, media and photo servers, and file-sharing programs, but there’s a lot more stuff available in the app store. USB storage was recognized and available upon insertion. It’s probably a good idea to power down before inserting a PCIe module anyway, since you could damage the unit by crossing contacts. When I added drives, both NVMe and SATA units required me to power-cycle the ZimaBoard before they’d show up. The main browser page of CasaOS as it appears when you first power on the ZimaBoard. The extremely attractive, Docker-hosting, CasaOS web interface prompts you to create a user name and password, then you’re good to go. If you’re going for NAS-like use, open up your browser, find the ZimaBoard’s IP address (look in your router’s client table or use a probe utility) and log on. There’s no on/off switch the unit is on from the time it senses power. So yes, the ZimaBoard is also a tiny Linux PC. In this case, it’s more like using a standard Linux distribution and you have access to normal apps such as Firefox, Libre Office, and so on. You can of course also attach a display, keyboard, and mouse for console use. Physically setting up the ZimaBoard is a simple matter of choosing the appropriate prongs for your outlet type from the included international adapters for the 12-volt/3-amp wall wart, plugging said power supply into the wall and the ZimaBoard, and then running an ethernet cable from your switch/router to the ZimaBoard. Still not into it? Buy a traditional NAS box. If you’re not a fan of exposed technology, think of this peripheral madness as a miniature art installation that you don’t have to pay a museum entrance fee to enjoy. Icewhale also offers a Wi-Fi module for the PCIe port. Rather than getting your starter Pokémon from a professor, for example, players are given a choice - between Fennekin, the fire-type fox Pokémon Froakie, the water-type frog Pokémon or Chespin, the grass-type Pokémon that resembles a chipmunk with a green hat - from an in-game “friend” of the player’s character. Though the Pokémon story format has been mostly preserved through the series, X and Y bring a few new twists to the table. This is the biggest advance in character creation since the series first allowed players to choose the gender of their characters in Crystal. Zhuang also enjoyed the character customization feature, which allows players to change the appearance and wardrobe of their characters. Senior computer science and philosophy major Charles Zhuang praised the game’s updated graphics and use of 3-D to improve the battle sequences. In X and Y, players explore the more interactive, dynamic world of the Kalos region, which is modeled after France. Now the series features more advanced graphics, which add dimension to the game by further stretching 3DS system’s capabilities. In past games, the landscapes and character sprites were viewed from an overhead perspective. Visually, X and Y are the most advanced games of the series. By virtue of appearing on the 3DS, the newest incarnations of the series now bring the action to the third dimension with 3-D Pokémon battles. The series first added color in Gold and Silver, which were released in the U.S. He said he didn’t mind the wait, playing games while he waited and talking with other Pokémon fans in line about the series.Īppearing for the first time on the Nintendo 3DS with X and Y, the game dynamics have changed immensely since the days of Red and Blue (or even Yellow, for those who wanted a Pikachu to follow them around). to get his hands on a copy of X and Y, Smith was one of the first 15 customers to receive the game. In College Park, students such as junior Japanese major Girado Smith II lined up for several hours at the GameStop store on Route 1 on Friday night for the midnight release of the game. With the simultaneous worldwide release of Pokémon X and Y, the newest versions of the classic game, the series is proving that it is still a major force in the video game industry. Though it was expected that Pokémania would fade away like boy bands and Beanie Babies, Pokémon has retained many loyal fans among those who grew up with the series. Yet if students at this university were asked what their first starter Pokémon was, many would quickly enter into an intense debate about the merits of Charmander, Bulbasaur or Squirtle. It has been 15 years since Pokémon Red and Blue first came out in the United States. “Rather than getting your starter Pokémon from a professor, for example, players are given a choice - between Fennekin, the fire-type fox Pokémon Froakie, the water-type frog Pokémon or Chespin, the grass-type Pokémon that resembles a chipmunk with a green hat - from an in-game “friend” of the player’s character.” -Zoë DiGiorgio * Chandler Marketplace, A mixed-use development zoned MU-Mixed Use and PGC-Planned General Commercial, on a total of 42.48 +/- acres, located north of Harris Lane, East of Greenlea Boulevard, and south of Vietnam Veterans. * Atlas Townhomes, A 161 (2-story) townhome unit development, on 16.73 +/- acres, zoned MU-Mixed Use District, located at Long Hollow Pike. * 909 Nashville Pike, A Preliminary Master Development Plan for a commercial strip center on 0.73 +/- acres, zoned MRO-Multiple Residential and Office District, located at 909 Nashville Pike. *These projects were approved as required by Planning Commission/City Council and are pending submittal of final plans. * First Bank at Windsong, a financial institution on 1.44 +/- acres, located at 220 MaHarris Drive. * Station Commons, a commercial development on 31.57 +/- acres, located at 190 Big Station Camp Boulevard. * Primrose Daycare, A childcare facility, on 3.91 +/- acres, located north of SR 386 and east of Greenlea Boulevard. * Nexus Planned Buisness Park – Phase 1, a business park on 45.14 +/- acres, located east of Highway 109 and north of West Albert Gallatin Avenue. * McDonald’s at Newman’s Crossing, a fast food restaurant on 1.16 +/- acres, located at 377 Big Station Camp Boulevard. * Laurelwood Townhomes, A request to rezone 25.28 +/- acres from R-15 and R-10 Medium Density Residential to R-10 PRD for a townhome development, located at Timberwood Drive and Drivers Lane. * Kennesaw Farms, Lot 1, a multi-tenant building on 1.76 +/- acres, located north of Nashville Pike and east of Kennesaw Boulevard. * Holloway Investments on Drivers Lane, A 54-unit townhome development on 19.24 +/- acres, located at Drivers Lane east of S. *Griffin Farm North, a mixed-use development including 286 apartment units on 40.26 acres, located south of Long Hollow Pike and east of Greenlea Boulevard. * Clear Lake Meadows Infrastructure Improvements, a site plan for infrastructure improvements between Highway 109 and Stanley and Westgate Drives.
